LITERATURE DEPARTMENT

It is true saying that, “Without literature or written form, the people's history is forgotten and death.” By keeping the above saying in mind, since the inception of the Nyishi Baptist Church Council (NBCC), the Literature activity was one of the main ministries in the life of NBCC. The Council is not only focusing in the spiritual realm but it also emphasizes on the holistic activities, such as literature, relief and development, socio-economic development, education, elevation of human life and value, etc. Hence, the Council took the Literature work as one of the top priorities in its life and ministry in order to preserve, develop and promote the Nyishi Language as much as in an original form. In spite of many hurdles and drawback, the Council took initiative for this noble work on behalf of the entire Nyishi Community.

With love and concern for the entire community, the tireless effort of our former elders and leaders, the Nyishi Alphabet and Orthography were developed and well accepted by the society. Through that developed orthography, the department has translated numbers of Church related literatures into Nyishi Language.

In beginning the Council did not feel for separate department as it was its one of the main activities, but as the work increased, the Council created a separate department in 2001 and constituted a committee viz. Literature Committee, NBCC, in order to spearhead the Nyishi Literature activities. By the grace of God, so far these literatures work have been accomplished by the department. They are:-
1.    Gvda Daapo
2.    Markwg aldvb pui xeqnam
3.    NEFA bemin
4.    Translated and published the Nit Pvvb (New Testament) in 2002

7.    Sunday school materials are translated
8.    Needed bulletins and tracts are translated and published
9.    Published Nyishi Alphabet Chart and Placard

Some of the main activities that usually the Literature Department, NBCC involved are:

2.    Collection and compile of traditional folk songs and lyrics.
3.    Documentation of traditional culture and habit.
4.    To conduct symposium and seminar on certain literature issues.

6.    To create or formulate certain terms or words (Nyishi termology)

Therefore, the department gives opportunity to any writers and literature lovers to document, write, collect and compile and publish their interested literature through this department.

An Appeal to Nyishis from Literature Department, NBCC

  1. To All the Nyishi Brothers and Sisters.

Dear beloved Nyishi brethren, young and old; male and female; Christians and non-Christians, all:-

On behalf of Literature Department, NBCC, I appeal you all! Please let us learn our Nyishi Alphabets. Now, day by day, our language is sinking down, is dying. Our young brothers and sisters of Nyishi community, are reading, writing and speaking other languages rather than our own mother tongue. So dear brethren, now it is our highly privileged time to preserve our own language. Let us teach Nyishi Alphabets and language to our youngsters in every possible way. Please don’t ignore it.

Whether you are from Papum-Pare, Lower Subansiri, Kurung-Kumey, East-Kameng, or from any other place, if you are a Nyishi, that’s all. Alphabet and its usages and pronunciations are same for everyone. Of course, accent of language or language variations may be different from one another, but that is not the big problem. If we can read and write English and Hindi, even Assamese, why not Nyishi? Nyishi is easier than all of them. So now, start to learn and teach Nyishi to Nyishi people.

  1. To All the Nyishi Parents.

It is my humble request to dear honorable Nyishi parents, please speak Nyishi language and teach Nyishi Lvr (Alphabet) to your children at your home. Don’t worry about English, Hindi or any other languages; your children will learn them at their respective schools and colleges. For English and Hindi languages, there are many, even countless paid teachers to teach your children. But for our own Nyishi Language, no teacher, not even one. Now, Nyishi parents, you are the first teachers in the family, so at any cost, please teach Nyishi tongue to your children at home. If you think you are Nyishi, it is your first duty to fulfill before you go from this world. Remember, the reward of teachers is “Just 2nd to God.”

  1. To All the Nyishi Christians.

Dear co-workers and co-believers in Christ! It is blessed news for every Nyishi Christian that in the year 2016, we received our long time dreamed “Nyishi Complete (full) Bible” in our own hands, which was released on 27th November 2016. How long shall we use other language Bible in preaching and teaching? Sometime it is very hard to preach the Word of God from other language Bible and many a time, we used to misinterpret the Word of God and present it wrongly. But now no more confusion and wrong interpretation, because we have our own Bible. So please learn Nyishi Lvr (Alphabet) thoroughly with prayerful heart to read Nyishi Bible correctly.

Reasons/Purposes of Learning Nyishi Lvr

(Alphabets):-

  1. To Preserve Nyishi Language.
  2. To Let Nyishis Read the Bible in Nyishi Language to have Personal Strong and Unfeigned Faith in Christ.
  3. To Remove Illiteracy from Nyishi People.
  4. To Teach and Train up Children in the Word of God in Nyishi for their Blessed Life. Eph.6:1-2; Prov. 22:6
  5. To Let Every Nyishi Believer Read the Bible in Nyishi and Share the Word of God to Non-Christians.
